WILLOW THE FILM
“Walk Beside Me” was recently signed for film production by Ziad Hamzeh, and will be titled “Willow”.
The new movie creation will be formally announced during breast cancer awareness month, to create a further dialogue on the devastating disease that affects one in eight US women (about 12.4%) over the course of her lifetime. Award-winning actress, Sheena Colette will play the lead character, Willow Adair.
Currently in development is Ziad's feature film Willow based on Christine Handy's best-selling book Walk Beside Me. Stylistically, Willow is a magnificent story where poetic realism marries the harsh dark layers of life. A rose standing in the center of the violent storm-tossed in so many directions with no shelter. A clearly focused journey that sparks with a fresh and honest look at the struggles that face our character in her darkest moments.
An accomplished, original, and brilliant story structure that breaks through the common chains and expectations of a melodrama and elevates it with gracefulness. The poetic nature that embodies the style of writing will allow a dazzling display of rawness and courage, a lightness that disguises the truth and the darkness that reveals it. The silence that conquers the greatest noise, the audience will feel the power of this emotionally charged journey.
“Walk Beside Me” weaves a heartfelt path of hope, prayer, and friendship as a woman fights her illness. It is a story of miracles and survival. The book was a national bestseller in 2016. As of January 2018, there are more than 3.1 million women with a history of breast cancer in the U.S. This includes women currently being treated and women who have finished treatment.
About 40,920 women in the U.S. are expected to die in 2018 from breast cancer, though death rates have been decreasing since 1989. Women under 50 have experienced larger decreases. These decreases are thought to be the result of treatment advances, earlier detection through screening, and increased awareness.
